Rodent Shield™ Installation Guide

Safety Precautions

  1. Install the energiser indoors and out of reach of children & pets at all times.

  2. Do not install the energiser near combustible or flammable materials.

  3. If using an earth bar, position it at least 100 meters away from any other earthing system to avoid interference.

  4. Always follow local electrical codes and regulations.

  5. Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

Preparation

  1. Select a dry, well-ventilated location for the energiser.

  2. Ensure easy access for routine inspection and maintenance.

  3. Gather necessary tools (rubber mallet, snips or knife to strip cable).

  4. Check all package contents and verify that the energiser and cables are in good condition.

Installation Steps

  1. Prepare Individual Barrier Panels

    • Attach the yellow stability feet (9) (2 per panel) and the bottom profiles (Profiles 4A, 5B, and 6C) to each 1-metre barrier panel (2). (Example below Diagram 1).

    • Lay each prepared panel on the ground and assemble the next one.

      * Diagram 1

  1. Assemble the Barrier Perimeter

    • Once all barriers are assembled connect all prepared 1-metre panels using the wing screws (10) (2 per panel) to form the perimeter.

    • Use the 90° corner barrier panels (3) at corners only; these connect at a 90-degree angle and cannot connect straight. (Example below Diagram 2).

    • Ensure the barrier forms a continuous, secure enclosure.

* Diagram 2

  1. Install the Aluminium Top Profile for Rigidity

    • Attach the 1-metre aluminium top profiles (12) along straight sections.

    • The aluminium strips are offset, each covering 50 cm of one barrier panel and 50 cm of the adjacent panel, overlapping joints to add rigidity. (Example above Diagram 1)

    • Use the 50 cm aluminium top profile corner pieces (13) exclusively at corners to align with corner barrier panels. (Example below Diagram 3).

      * Diagram 3

  2. Connect the High-Voltage Cable

    • Attach the 25-metre high-voltage cable (7) from the energiser’s terminal to the barrier system.

    • If using the system without an earth bar, please connect the Positive (+) & Negative (-) as shown in the below diagram (Diagram 4).

    • Secure connections properly with wing screws.

  3. (Optional) Connect the Earth Bar

    • If used, install the earth bar (8) at least 100 meters away from other earthing systems.

    • Connect the earth bar to the Negative (-) terminal on the energiser using the provided clamp.

    • Connect this using the 25m cable included. (Example below Diagram 5).

Connecting your System

The below diagrams show the alternative ways that the system can be setup. Using an earth bar with your setup will increase protection, this is an optional measure you can take to prevent rodent damage.

Setup One (Without Earth Bar)

Setting up your system this way will mean that a shock is sent once any of the (+) Positive & (-) Negative tracks are crossed. (Example below Diagram 4).

* Diagram 4

Setup Two (With Earth Bar)

Setting up your system this way will mean that it works the same as the above, however, the Ground/Earth will now become a (-) Negative. If a rodent was on the ground and touched any of the (+) Positive tracks it would receive a shock. (Example below Diagram 5).

  1. Mount and Power the Energiser

    • Mount the Energiser (1) securely indoors in a dry, ventilated location, away from the reach of children.

    • Plug into your mains outlet.

    • Verify energiser indicator lights show normal operation.

    • Once the cable is stripped at the end, this can be wrapped around the terminal on the energiser and tightened. The other end can be stripped and secured to the barrier with the wing screws.

Final Checks

  1. Confirm all connections are secure and insulated.

  2. Verify proper earthing if the earth bar is installed.

  3. Inspect cables for damage or exposure.

  4. Ensure warning signs are visible and legible around the barrier.

  5. Keep children and pets away during initial system testing.

Maintenance Tips

  • Periodically inspect the barrier system and energiser for damage or wear.

  • Keep barrier panels free from debris to maintain performance.

  • Confirm the energiser remains powered and operating correctly.
